Bob Marriott’s Flyfishing Store to Close After 46 Years

After more than four decades of serving anglers across Southern California and beyond, Bob Marriott’s Flyfishing Store will close its doors on March 22, 2025.

Founded in 1978, the shop became a go-to resource for fly fishers of all levels—known for its deep inventory, knowledgeable staff, and destination travel services. Though Bob Marriott himself stepped away from the business years ago, current owner Kevin Bell and his team have carried the torch with the same focus on quality gear and customer support.

In a statement posted to the store’s Instagram, Kevin thanked customers, friends, and industry partners for their support over the years: “You’ve made it a home, a gathering place, and a shared space for stories, laughter, and a love for the water.”

For many anglers, Bob Marriott’s wasn’t just a shop—it was the place to get your first rod, book your first guided trip, or simply talk fishing with someone who knew their stuff. It set the standard for what a brick-and-mortar fly shop could be, long before the rise of online retail.

As the fly-fishing industry continues to evolve, the closure of Bob Marriott’s marks the end of an era. Few shops have lasted as long or earned the kind of national reputation this one did.

Anglers still have the weekend to stop by, stock up, and say goodbye before the doors close for good. Whether you were a regular or just stopped in once while passing through, it’s worth tipping your cap to a place that helped shape the sport in California.

Bob Marriott’s Flyfishing Store: thanks for the run.

A message from Kevin Bell, Owner of Bob Marriott’s Flyfishing Store

With a heart full of gratitude, I want to share an important decision about Bob Marriott’s Flyfishing Store and Wild on the Fly Adventure Travel. For over 35 years, this shop and travel department have been my passion and a cornerstone of my life. From working for Bob Marriott to becoming an owner, it has been an incredible journey filled with cherished memories, friendships, and adventures.

Now, my wife and I are ready to focus on family and fully embrace life as grandparents. While stepping away is bittersweet, it’s time to pass the torch to someone who will continue the legacy of the shop and travel business.

Thank you all for your unwavering support—it has meant the world to me.

  1. Sad to see it go! When I was a kid and spending my summers in Northern Idaho, I would call them for advice and they had a huge catalogue that had everything – always a joy when the order would arrive. They helped me build my first fly rod – a Sage 367 LL – I still use it today. They also had such a great collection of fly tying materials.
