We’re thrilled to share that two of California Fly Fisher’s own contributors have been recognized on the national stage by the Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA).
At the 2025 Excellence in Craft Awards, Obi Kaufmann received First Place in Graphic Illustration for his Klamath Watershed, a stunning visual representation of the Klamath’s ecosystem. The piece combines art and factoids celebrating the largest river restoration project in U.S. history—the removal of four dams on the Klamath.
Jody Martin earned First Place in Magazine, Fishing for The Stars in Our Eyes, a touching account of his work with Casting for Recovery, highlighting the importance of finding beauty in small things and the healing connections found in fly fishing.
Earlier this year, Jody’s The Stars in Our Eyes also received First Place for Best Outdoor Feature Article from the Outdoor Writers Association of California (OWAC).
Both award-winning pieces appeared in our Fall 2024 issue, and we couldn’t be prouder of Obi and Jody. Their work exemplifies what we strive to achieve in every issue of California Fly Fisher—storytelling and imagery that connect anglers to the wild waters, unique fisheries, and communities we cherish.
Congratulations, Obi and Jody! We’re honored to have your voices and vision in the pages of California Fly Fisher.
