Dagur Guðmundsson

Dagur Árni Guðmundsson was born on the windswept rock of Iceland, where his earliest memories are of fishing for cod and pollock off the pier. When he was 10, he moved to California and has split his time between summers in Iceland and winters in California ever since. At 16, he got his foot in the door at one of Iceland's top salmon rivers as a dishwasher and got to fill in for guides when the opportunity presented itself. That was the start of a life as a fly fishing guide, and since then, he spends the summers guiding for Atlantic salmon and brown trout and the rest of the year guiding on the Central Coast for carp, bass, and surf perch. Dagur has been a regular contributor to the California Fly Fisher since 2020, is the director of fly education for the American Carp Society, and is a full-time fly-fishing guide and fly tyer.
