Originally from Michigan, Sarah Landström was classically trained in painting at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. There, she was able to focus on creating her style, and she also began to paint the trout that she had become familiar with during a long stay in Helena, Montana, where she learned to fly fish. This was her first step toward a career in fly-fishing art.

Knowing that she could combine her two great loves, painting and fly fishing, Landström signed up for a booth at the Fly Fishing Show and decided to buckle down to try to make a living as an artist. From there, she followed connections and opportunities all over the world, painting through partnerships and trades so that she could travel and continue to chase a dream that only grew with exploration.

Now living in San Francisco, where she is completing a Masters of Fine Arts degree at the California College of the Arts, Landström has immersed herself further in her fly-fishing and artistic practice. From striped bass to Lahontan cutthroats, she continues to explore the incredible variety of fish that California offers and the landscapes they inhabit.

With her landscape paintings, Landström often paints outside to help absorb the color and essence of each place, allowing herself to use colors liberally in response to how she sees and feels them. With her fish, Landström sometimes uses reference photos, but primarily lets her imagination run free to create fish with distinct personalities and patterns. Her current works consist of vibrant, large-scale acrylic paintings with heavy textural marks.
