Julia Mitchell

Julia Mitchell started fly fishing in 1999 at the suggestion of her mother. Twenty-five years later, she’s an avid angler. Nine years ago she bought a cabin near the Trinity River, which has become one of her favorite places to fish for steelhead. Julia’s nonprofit, Rising to the Fly, works to break down barriers and make fly fishing accessible and inclusive to all women, and provides women with the gear, garb, and guidance they need to fish across the United States and Canada. Fly fishing has taken Julia to a number of beautiful places, and she loves that while fly fishing, she’s always learning.
